Proactive Spring Cleaning = Emergency Preparedness

4/1/2022 (Permalink)

As you plan for spring cleaning, don’t forget to tackle some crucial property maintenance that may not be as obvious as scrubbing the baseboards!

It’s that time of year again… the flowers are blooming, the pollen is out for a vengeance and ‘spring cleaning’ gets added to the top of our to-do lists.

As you plan for your annual deep clean and refresh, don’t forget to tackle some crucial property maintenance that may not be as obvious as dusting the fan blades or scrubbing the baseboards.

Not sure where to start?

Check SERVPRO of Davie & Yadkin’s Emergency Preparedness Spring Cleaning Checklist:

Mold Prevention

North Carolina is known for its summer heat and high humidity, which can unfortunately lead to mold! Try introducing a dehumidifier in your home to reduce humidity levels and eliminate conditions where mold can thrive. Not only will this lower your risk of mold growth in your property, lower humidity levels can also deter dust accumulation! If you come across any mold infestation in your home during your spring cleaning, don’t hesitate to call SERVPRO of D&Y for mold remediation assistance. Mold is fast growing and dangerous for not only your health but can also cause serious structural damage to your property, so proactivity is key.

PS: Household mold can worsen those pesky spring allergies. Early detection and removal is key in mitigating allergy symptoms, protecting your overall health, and maintaining the foundational structure of your home.

Water Damage Prevention

April showers bring May flowers - and potentially months of restoration if your property is unprepared! Heavy rain and flash floods are inevitable, however, more trivial things like clogged drain pipes, leaky pipes, or broken water mains can also lead to water damage in your home. Making regular leak checks and rain gutter maintenance part of your spring cleaning routine can make all the difference in water damage prevention.

  • Tip 1 – Look for leaks within your home. If you have a property in which your water supply was cut off for the winter months, make sure to turn it back on and monitor for leaks.
  • Tip 2 – Look for leaks in or around your exterior hose bib. Although not inside your home, a leaky exterior spigot can lead to exterior, interior, and even foundational damage to your home. In freezing temperatures, hose bibs are prone to expanding and cracking. As spring temperatures set in and pipes begin to thaw, a cracked hose bib can lead to a continuous leak. If left undetected, even a slow leak can result in serious water damage to your property.

Fire Prevention

Be sure to test your smoke, fire and carbon monoxide alarms! It’s easy to forget about these until a disaster has backed you into a corner. This kind of proactive maintenance can help protect you and your family, as well as lessen the potential for irreversible property damage.

SERVPRO of Davie and Yadkin Counties has successfully assisted hundreds of North Carolina home and land owners in water damage mitigation, restoration and disaster recovery since their opening in 2011. Let's Keep Our Kids in the Classroom This Year

8/18/2021 (Permalink)

NC students are finally headed back to the classroom, however, the new Delta COVID Variant is causing mass uncertainty for parents, students and teachers regarding this new school year. As these cases start to rise, public school systems stand the risk of shutting down again, threatening to leave NC students learning from their kitchen tables yet again.

SERVPRO of Davie and Yadkin Counties, a locally owned and family operated emergency restoration franchise, says “this can’t happen again.”

Because the new variant has increased the need for OSHA certified cleaning specialists to aid in preventing the spread, SERVPRO teams have become an invaluable resource for both commercial and residential spaces looking for preventative COVID cleaning- especially schools.

To help prevent the spread, the CDC encourages cleaning of high-touch surfaces such as counters, tabletops, doorknobs, light switches, bathroom fixtures, toilets, phones, keyboards, tablets and tables- all highly exposed surfaces that make schools the perfect hub for rapid transmission.

SERVPRO of Davie and Yadkin Counties have trained professionals ready to perform a proactive facility/structure cleaning and disinfection that meets all CDC prevention protocols- going above and beyond the scope of regular janitorial work. The Yadkinville based team hold over 20 industry certifications, making them a trusted leader in COVID and biohazard cleaning, as well as water, fire, mold and storm damage.

“Look, I have two kids myself. I understand how crucial an in-person education is for a student’s success,” said owner Trey McSwain. “Our main goal is to keep NC kids in the classrooms, however, this new wave of the virus poses a serious risk to that. SERVPRO of Davie and Yadkin is ready to help local school systems combat the Delta Variant and keep our kids in school where they belong.”

McSwain says his team is ready to provide Yadkin and Davie County public school systems with expert coronavirus and biohazard cleaning to help ensure NC schools remain open. For all business inquiries, please reach out to Trey or George McSwain at 336-618-6558 or
